The elevator was invented in Yonkers, New York. Otis Elevator for
many decades was "THE" name in elevators. When Otis moved out of it's huge sprawling factory buildings, many people who depended
on them were out of work. After much negotiations the buildings were renovated and leased out. A brand new huge public library
was built. The Yonkers Board of Education moved into a few of the buildings, Mercy College occupies others. The crown Jewl
though is Kawasaki Rail Car. They build subway cars by contract for cities all over the world. Kawasaki has helped to revitalize a
city that grew by it's industries.
